St Joseph’s Church, Brindle, Hoghton, is locked up, and a four-page decree pinned to the door declares that the parish is extinct.

“The Abbot [of Ampleforth] and the Archbishop continue to discuss the future of the church building, which is open for occasional use by agreement with the Ampleforth Abbey Trust. However, on Sunday, it is important that the faithful of the merged parish gather to celebrate Mass together at St Bede’s and build their community around the altar.”
