What are the things that make a person ‘spiritual’ and how can the search for spirituality become something profound and universally understood? These are questions that need answers in a society where material considerations dominate Use the word “spirituality” and there is often a nervous intake of breath. For most people, the nervousness is no longer at the prospect of an intense, evangelical religiosity, but arguably something even worse – a fluffy, candle-and-incense, New Age self-absorption. Periodically, someone brave steps into this nervy territory and initiates a conversation to explore the word and its meanings, and why so many would like it remaindered.
