“It feels as though someone has torn out my heart.” A parent who lost his son in Nice’s Bastille Day massacre could only whisper these words of grief. It seems that we hear stories like this every day.

The abyss of loss, the irredeemable ache of helpless anger and sorrow, the tyranny of fear – how much desolation can these innocent victims of hatred bear? And what is happening to our own human spirit when we are bombarded daily with terrible news about our inhumanity to each other?

Thank you Daniel. Wise words as always, and much needed. It is only together, in unity of (The) Spirit, that we as Church can hope to fulfil this demand of God to be hope, light and love in such darkness.
