Maura O’Donohue was born into a farming family in the west of Ireland, near Kilfenora in County Clare. She was at boarding school when she saw the film, Visitation, commissioned by the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) to show how medical skills can enhance the missionary work of the Church. The idea of serving the Gospel as a doctor became a vocation that would eventually take O’Donohue to 83 countries around the world.Four weeks after joining the MMMs, O’Donohue entered medical school at University College Dublin.
