A shepherd’s vision of the Virgin Mary in the Andalucian mountains led to the establishment of a commemorative sanctuary. Rachel Collingwood went to the town of Cazalla to watch the festival held every August Around two and a half miles from the town of Cazalla de la Sierra, travelling down a long meandering road, you catch a glimpse of the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Monte, where the town’s patron resides. Cazalla is in the Sierra Norte, north-east of Seville, abundant with oak trees, wild boar and occasional glimpses of a mongoose’s black-tipped tail as it scuttles into the undergrowth.
