In July 2014 the House of Lords debated Charles Falconer’s Assisted Dying Bill. It was a marathon 10-hour debate with 127 speakers, of whom 65 spoke in favour. The House was very evenly divided and at the end neither proponents nor opponents of the bill took the risk of calling for a vote.
