It was the Christmas holiday and in the monastery we were watching a DVD of the 1959 classic The Nun’s Story. Audrey Hepburn is surely the most impossibly ethereal nun ever to drift around in a habit.

Very refreshing and thought- provoking. A reminder that the undercurrents of culture can still exercise great power beneath the surface despite being formally exposed as being contrary to the gospel. It is this unseen mass of submerged iceberg which still snares the movement for radical change.
