What is it about football without crowds that is so unsatisfactory? There are many obvious reasons: the main one being the lack of atmosphere that results when you don’t have tens of thousands of people yelling into and breathing the same air. For me personally there’s the added issue of my team’s very poor results in these difficult times.
I’m put in mind of an unfortunate statistic that has followed Coventry City around since 1978, when they were thought to be the only team in the league to have failed to score in the reign of a Pope. Similarly, at the time of writing, my team haven’t won a single Premier League match in the time of the virus.
