Where I've spent some of the most enjoyable and unenjoyable days of my life
My hairdresser in west London is a very nice bloke indeed. He’s called Jonathan and he’s a proper Eastender, who comes schlepping over from the sunrise side of town every morning on the District Line. He’s also frontman of a punk band called Cross Wires. And he’s a massive fan of West Ham United.
We have so much to talk about what with music and football and everything, and with him being a nice guy and me being a nice guy too, honestly the haircuts go on forever, in a way that gents’ cuts really shouldn’t.
Jonathan’s West Ham United moved from their incredibly special home, the Boleyn Ground aka Upton Park, nearly three years ago. They moved to go and play at what most of us know as the Olympic Stadium, at Stratford. So they’d gone from a much-loved home bang in the middle of the community, to an enormous not-purpose-built new-build a few miles away.
