Reforms being driven by Poland’s current government, led by the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS), are – according to its critics – endangering democracy and the rule of law. Such charges are indignantly rejected by PiS’s supporters. Telling truth from falsehood in this bitter feud requires some detachment.
