No winners: the pain of divided loyalties at the World Cup
 

I write this in room 572 of the Radisson Slavyanskaya, Moscow, the morning after the World Cup Final the night before. There’s an air of sadness about the place. The lobby is full of journalists with huge suitcases stuffed full of World Cup memorabilia and dirty washing. They’re checking out and flying home, happy to be doing so but in every case thanking their lucky stars they got to experience this tournament.
