On a summer’s day, white sheeting clings to the exterior of Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, not quite reaching to the top, as if some giant had begun to dress the blackened bones of the building and simply given up.
This image of a partially covered, incinerated tower block is a shocking reminder that business, including a public inquiry and rehousing those made homeless by the terrible fire on 14 June last year, remains unfinished.
Beneath the tower, St Clement’s church has become a different kind of symbol for many.
