In 2012 I was searching for IEDs (improvised explosive devices) in Afghanistan, clearing the route for patrols. It was a testing time. The Taliban had started putting them in at the last minute. They even rolled one at us when we were driving. My sergeant lost his leg. And we were getting shot at by insurgents. That’s how my friend Richie was killed.
