If anything was needed to convince those living in Scotland that Westminster was out of touch with Scottish affairs, it was the reception of the first reading of Mr Russell Johnston’s Home Rule Bill late last year.

It is true, as it has been from the beginning, that the enormous, incalculable moral influence of the Holy See is at the service of the world in support of any movement for the lasting peace founded on right and justice, but it is also true that the Holy See will not initiate or aid any peace movement in favour of one side or the other, nor, indeed, any such movement which has no chance of being favourably considered by all parties.
