Mary will talk about her latest book, Here’s the Story: A Memoir as well as building bridges though justice, social equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism and reconciliation. She will also discuss challenging misogyny within the Catholic Church.

Mary McAleese was President of Ireland from 1997 to 2011, the country’s second female President and its first from Northern Ireland.
Prior to this, Mary’s roles included Reid Professor of Law at Trinity College, Dublin and Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen's University Belfast.
Since leaving office she has been a Burns Scholar at Boston College (2013) and Distinguished Carmel and Martin Naughton Fellow at the University of Notre Dame (2015). In 2016 she was the Distinguished Visiting fellow at St. Mary’s University, London. She is Chair of the Von Hugel Institute at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge University and Patron of the Bob Hawke Institute, University of South Australia. In 2018, Mary was appointed the newly created Professor of Children, Law and Religion at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She also sits as a member of the Council of Women World Leaders.
In January 2012, Mary along with her husband were rewarded the Tipperary Peace Prize for their work in “promoting peace and reconciliation.”
Edward Stourton is writer and presenter of several high-profile current-affairs programmes and documentaries for radio and television, and regularly presents BBC Radio Four programmes such as The World at One, The World This Weekend, Sunday and Analysis. He is a frequent contributor to the Today programme, where for ten years he was one of the main presenters.
He has authored several books including John Paul II: Man of History, In the Footsteps of St Paul, Absolute Truth: The Catholic Church Today, It's a PC World : What It Means to Live in a Land Gone Politically Correct, Diary of a Dog-Walker: Time Spent Following a Lead, Cruel Crossing: Escaping Hitler Across the Pyrenees and Auntie's War: The BBC During the Second World War.
