Has American intervention in the war between Israel and Iran only added fuel to the fire, or has it promoted the cause of peace?

The United States says the latter, not without reason. Western public opinion (outside the US) seems unsure, with political leaders hesitant to approve or condemn. They are waiting to see what happens next. Bombing a country with which one is not at war – or immediately threatened by – looks like a clear breach of international law. Nevertheless, the US attack might have achieved a positive result, namely severe damage to Iran’s nuclear weapons programme and possibly its abandonment for good. But the gamble is a huge one.
