The prospect of another referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union is shifting towards the centre of the political debate. While the 2016 referendum decision was narrowly in favour of the principle of Brexit, it was not remotely clear what the details would look like. Once those are settled, the argument goes, it is only reasonable to ask the British electorate if this is what it wanted.
Those for whom Brexit was the right answer in principle, regardless of the precise terms, would restate their previous choice.
