Pope Francis is staying at the helm. That was the message of his sermon when he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a bishop at the Vatican this week, indicating that he had more to do to impart his “dream” to future generations. He and other elderly cardinals – he will be 81 this December – were, he said, like grandfathers “called to dream and to give our dream to the young people of today”. It is a vision of a Church where God’s mercy overflows beyond the boundaries set by rigid rules and offers a way forward for everyone, whatever their situation
