On 14 April the legendary Cardinal Roberto Tucci SJ died just five days short of his ninety-fourth birthday. Baptised in the Anglican Communion because of his Anglican mother, Tucci converted as a student and entered the Society of Jesus in 1936. He was the long-time director of La Civiltà Cattolica, the renowned theological periodical published by the Jesuits. He then served for more than a decade at the helm of Vatican Radio, followed by the job of coordinating the bulk of John Paul II’s papal trips and international visits during his pontificate.
