I worry I’d be held accountable for a war I see as necessary but wish could end yesterday
 

Heading for passport control at Luton Airport, it was striking to see posters in Hebrew dotted about. These were inviting anyone returning from Israel to report alleged war crimes.

A reminder of the fraught reality in the Middle East, but also of the way conflict there inevitably impacts Jewish life here. A reminder of the hatred towards Jews that has bubbled to the fore, too often indistinguishable from legitimate criticism of Israel’s government. Of Jewish pupils being attacked outside school, or the word “Jewish” erased from publicity for the new film about Nicholas Winton, who saved 669 children from the Nazis, presumably for fear it would put audiences off. A reminder of why my son had to wear a cap rather than his kippah on a school trip (he’s four) and why the school has set up a parents’ rota to provide additional security around the premises, on top of two official guards.
