The annual show of autumn leaves is ending. I’ve really enjoyed it. The field maples seem to have been a particularly deep gold this year, so that although they are small in stature, you can see them glowing from far away. The wild cherries have blazed as red as the November sunsets. In spring, the Japanese celebrate the beauty of flowering trees with blossom festivals; perhaps we should have autumn jamborees to appreciate the many different shapes and colours of the dying leaves.
