The flowers of high summer are raising their towers. Though the grass has been baked brown by the heat, drifts of willowherb are lifting themselves head-high and splashing hedge bottoms and ditches with their distinctive magenta. The billowing fronds of roadside mugwort might not be so colourful, but at the touch of a human hand they release a dreamy aromatic fragrance.
