It was the kind of drizzly day when evening seems to be gathering at noon. As I squelched along the path, a magpie chattered in the gloom. I was climbing the stile when I saw the colony of herb-robert. The plant’s small pink flowers glowed like little lights. Herb-robert can be found blooming in shady corners, woods, car parks and gardens, all year round, but its bright flowers make a particularly fine sight on a drab autumn day. I always stop for a bit when encountering a herb-robert patch.
