Have you got quarter of an hour spare this weekend? If so, find some flowers and sit by them. A sunlit park or garden corner, a meadow, even a flurry of weeds swirling up valiantly from concrete will do. Now wait and see how many butterflies come and join you. That’s all you have to do to catch the last weekend of one of the world’s biggest Citizen Science projects. The Butterfly Conservation organisation wants us to join its “Big Butterfly Count” by letting it know how common our common butterflies and day-flying moths really are.
