Desperate to escape the commercial feeding-frenzy of Christmas shopping, we headed for our local RSPB reserve at Saltholme on Teesside, hoping to enjoy the graceful marsh harriers that make their home there. What better way of refreshing jaded spirits than seeing those broad-winged, lithesome birds, gliding low over the reeds, or soaring towards the clouds?
