The vandals were visiting us again. I could hear them rattling the windows. Drawing back the curtains, I caught them red-handed – two blue tits pecking wilfully at the window frame. Blue tits might not look like your typical hooligans, but there’s no doubt that they’re not averse to causing minor damage to human property. I remember how they used to pinch the cream from our milk. Each morning, we’d wake up to find the acrobatic birds perched on the silver foil tops, pecking their way into the doorstep bottle.
