Autumn colours. The birch trees are already touched with gold. Soon the field maples will flame red. After this, the cherry tree leaves shall fade to a sunset orange; while the wild service tree’s canopy glows copper. But autumn’s brightly coloured coat isn’t just woven from leaves. I was sitting in the garden when I heard a thud – an apple falling from the tree.
