This is a wonderful book of Advent meditations to be used from 1 through to 25 December, written by Sr Gemma Simmonds, a British Catholic theologian and sister of the Congregation of Jesus. Each day’s meditation is based around a Bible passage which is put into context. Old Testament passages are teamed with New, and she skilfully mixes personal reflections with scholarly commentary, and ends with inspired questions and a prayer. Her prayer prompts for the Magnificat, for example, gave me a completely new perspective on it.
