A Life in Questions
Jeremy Paxman
This is a riveting romp through an honourable career in journalism and broadcasting by the Grand Inquisitor himself, who is, we discover, a charming and delightful reporter who thinks the best of most of the people he interviews, with an admirably humble view of the role of presenters (considerably less important, he reckons, than sewage workers).
Several years ago, when I was running Cafod’s press operation, I found myself on Newsnight stubbornly arguing with a sceptical Jeremy Paxman that the BBC has a duty to report from a range of humanitarian emergencies, not just those that have captured the public imagination. It is a testament to Paxo’s fearful reputation that 15 years after leaving Cafod, former colleagues still greet me as “the woman who got Paxoed and won”.
