Jean-Luc Marion is a member of the Académie Française and an emeritus professor at La Sorbonne. He is renowned as one of France’s leading philosophers and theologians, and worked closely with St John Paul II’s advisor Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger. In A Brief Apology for a Catholic Moment (Brève apologie pour un moment catholique), Marion writes as a Catholic philosopher entering a political and social debate. This brief apology addresses the question of Catholic participation in French politics after the Islamist attacks of 2015 and 2016, while Catholics were marching in the “Manif Pour Tous” in defence of the family for the sake of children’s lives and wellbeing. Beyond this, the book sends an enduring message to international Catholic and non-Catholic readers.
