Anyone who has kept an eye on the public prints in the last year will have been aware of the rising tide of indignation emanating from Jonathan Sumption – distinguished historian, former Supreme Court judge and author – at the means by which the present government has sought to keep the populace quiescent in the course of the pandemic.
