What is a granddaughter’s view of someone widely regarded as a saint? Kate Hennessy is in a privileged position to answer the question – her mother was Tamar Hennessy, the only child of Dorothy Day, founder of the Catholic Worker movement. If the effort being made by the Archdiocese of New York is successful, Kate Hennessy may one day be among those present for her grandmother’s canonisation. Pope Francis signalled his support for such recognition when he named Dorothy Day as one of four Americans he especially admired.
