A.N. WILSON
Lord Bramall’s The Bramall Papers (Pen & Sword Books, £25; Tablet price £22.50) is a wonderful book, consisting of speeches, reflections and memories by our most distinguished field marshal, who fought on the Normandy beaches, was serving in Berlin in 1961 when the wall went up and was head of the British army during the Falklands War. A good reminder that, though the British are not much good at anything else these days, they still produce marvellous soldiers.
