Stephen
ITV
Frank and joe Cottrell Boyce’s dramatic revisiting of the murder of Stephen Lawrence starts not with the terrible act itself but 18 years later, after three investigations and an inquiry, yet no convictions. This was 2011, when Detective Chief Inspector Clive Driscoll, head of Scotland Yard’s Racial and Violent Crime task force, decided to finally get the men who did it. As Driscoll puts it in Stephen (all three episodes now available on ITV Hub), this is not a whodunnit – everyone knew who had committed the crime. Rather, what was required was the kind of dogged police procedural work that would painstakingly pick over the evidence until a successful prosecution could be secured against a gang of thugs who had been unrepentantly walking free since 1993.
