Kids who serve time with mum and dad


 

It is easy to forget, but prison is a punishment for families as much as for individuals. Young children are denied contact with a parent except under tightly restricted circumstances.

In Prison, My Parents & Me (15 November), a special programme in the run-up to the “Children In Need” fundraiser, we were introduced to some young people using the little access that is available to them with their parents or, in some cases, reopening contact they had long rejected. It was a sad and rather haunting programme.
