Hoarder in the house

The opening instalment of this characteristically intelligent series (10-14 October) found presenter Matthew Sweet in animated conversation with a woman from Pontypridd called Sinead. The distinguishing mark of Sinead’s approach to life, it turned out, was her habit of accumulating inanimate objects. Her radically overfilled house contained, among other items, 100 pairs of boots and numberless china pigs, although she conceded that the pig fetish had burnt itself out in recent years. There was also a selection of goods stowed away in cardboard boxes as a hedge against the outbreak of World War Three.
