It would be a brave man, or woman, who dared to criticise the brain-fest that ended last week after proceeding in daily instalments on Radio 4 for the past three months. Each week began with a customarily suave Lord Bragg (“Predetermined or providential?”) and a panel of helpers raptly discussing a big idea, whereupon individual members of the team were sent off to present programmes of their own devising. Theses were propounded, expert witnesses brought in and finely judged conclusions arrived at – all in the space of 12 minutes.The final theme (26-30 January) turned on the ways in which technology was changing us.
