Any self-respecting male pop fan in sight of pensionable age will have fond memories of Canvey Island’s Dr Feelgood, who for a short time in the mid 1970s could be regarded as the snappiest rhythm and blues band on the planet. I still own a vinyl copy of their storming 1975 debut set Down by the Jetty, not to mention the souvenir badge that my friend Jaqi brought back from their concert at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich, in the summer of 1976 (it was the night before the French O-level oral exam, so naturally I couldn’t go myself ).
