The first tranche of this timely three-part enquiry into the last 400 years or so of Anglo-Scottish relations (13 September) opened at the Burns Museum in Ayr with presenter Allan Little being told to watch his fingers on the original manuscript of “Auld Lang Syne”.
Fascinating as this document was, Little turned out to be yet more absorbed by “A Parcel of Rogues”, written over 80 years after the 1707 coming together, but unshakeably convinced that Scotland had been “bought and sold for English gold”.
