NT at Home

The list of benefits of the pandemic will be short, but one cultural boon has been that it’s encouraged theatres to put their video archives online. Among such projects, the technically slickest and most content-rich so far is NT at Home, a greasepaint Netflix or Amazon Prime.
For around £8 a month subscription (or a single “rent” fee per play of between £4.99 and £6.99) recordings of selected productions can be watched anywhere in the world, making the National Theatre, as only digital can, international.
That had already been achieved, since 2009, by NT Live, which globally streamed performances at the National Theatre and elsewhere. But, with cinemas largely closed, NT at Home draws, logically and appetisingly, mainly from NT Live, topped up with a few more niche pieces, recorded for posterity but not released cinematically.
