Hamilton

Even if theatres were open, many would be unable to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s brilliant musical, Hamilton – about an ignored American founding father – due to high demand and high prices.
So a cultural bonus of the closures is the Disney+ channel streaming a recording of a 2016 Broadway performance that was scheduled for cinematic release in October 2021. A one-off payment of £5.99 gives access for a month, along with other Disney content, including Frozen II.
Those who saw Hamilton in theatres (I did, three times) will find the magnificence intact, while first-timers are not seeing a degraded copy. Precision sound balance also enhances appreciation of lyrics that, live, were sometimes drowned out by the score. Miranda’s ingenious rhyming (“quagmire” / “flag higher”) and poetic phrasing (“I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory”) thrill still more in crystal clarity.
