There are treats in store, telly-wise, over Christmas and New Year. Happily, there is plenty of the familiar: Carols from King’s, of course (BBC2, Christmas Eve, 5.50 p.m.), as well as Midnight Mass – this year from Buckfast Abbey (BBC1, Christmas Eve, 11.45 p.m.). And there’s something new added to the mix this year: Christmas at St Paul’s (BBC2, Christmas Eve, 9 p.m.), a fly-on-the-wall documentary on the young choristers of the City of London’s cathedral preparing for Christmas week. Springwatchers Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan journey to Jordan to look for the star of Bethlehem in Under the Christmas Sky (BBC2, 23 December, 9 p.m.), while Richard Ayoade and David Baddiel also travel thither tasked with buying gold, frankincense and myrrh in Travel Man: 96 Hours in Jordan (Channel 4, 27 December, 9 p.m.).
