As so many documentaries about North America do, Reversing Roe (Netflix) begins with an aerial view of a vast highway network stretched across some mid-Western plain. It’s an image both of progress and alienation, of freedom and conformity. Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg’s important documentary film is about the politicisation over the last 40 years of abortion in the United States – and it is summed up by that image of a huge road running into the distance from which there seems no place to disembark and explore the surrounding landscape.
