Crossing the nondescript little triangle behind London’s Shaftesbury Theatre 14 years ago, I was stopped in my tracks by the sudden appearance of 10ft sculpture of a seated man with a traffic cone on his head, chin propped on one elbow à la Rodin’s Thinker. It wasn’t the Rodin spoof that made me laugh so much as the title: it was called The Drinker.
