In presenting the first instalment of this combative 10-parter, 'An Alternative History of Art'  (5-16 March), Iwona Blazwick of London’s Whitechapel Gallery left us in no doubt as to why her subject wasn’t better-known. The fault was that of a white, male canon whose arbiters ganged up to exclude anything they didn’t like the look of.
