Bishop’s plea to keep camp open

Giorgio Bertin, the Bishop of Djibouti and the apostolic administrator of Mogadishu, has urged the Kenyan Government to reconsider plans to close a camp it believes has become a base for terrorists, writes Fredrick Nzwili.

Bishop Bertin says that Dadaab Refugee Camp in the north-east of the country is not safe enough for the refugees hosted there to return home.

Bertin spoke to The Tablet as the Government considers shutting down the settlement, which with 350,000 people is the largest in the world.
