Legionaries prepare to move on

A SPECIAL pontifical supervisory “assistant” to the Legionaries of Christ was expected to be announced on Thursday.

The order is still dogged by fallout from revelations that founder Marcial Maciel Degollado fathered children and molested seminarians. Starting five years ago with a Vatican-ordered apostolic visitation the reform process has culminated in a seven-week conference of the Legionaries’ leadership. The order’s new constitution was likely to be approved  during a visit to the Legionaries’ headquarters by the Prefect and Secretary of the Congregation for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
