Pioneering course for school leaders

Austria

A two-term course for the heads of Christian schools, the first of its kind in the world, has opened at the Church Pedagogical Academy in Vienna (KPH Vienna/Krems), writes Christa Pongratz-Lippitt. The course has been set up jointly with Fordham Jesuit University in New York.

Christian teacher training at the academy is ecumenical and focuses on tradition and culture. Inter-denominational learning is enriched by cooperation with other religions. The new “Emerging Leaders of Christian Schools Programme” is for heads of schools and educational institutions in church hands. The KPH has a role model status in Europe as it offers courses for Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox and Old Catholic religion teachers which allows them to preserve their denominational identity.
