Cardinals have given contrasting interpretations of the final Synod on the Family document, in particular on whether it offers an opening on Communion for remarried divorcees. The two-year process culminated in a 94-paragraph document published last Saturday which included a “path of discernment” and an “internal forum” for the divorced and remarried which some priests and bishops already use to determine whether a person can be readmitted to the sacraments. The document did not, however, give a definitive answer on the question.
