In prayer the soul is cleansed from sin and fed with charity. In prayer the soul is confirmed in faith, strengthened in hope, and gladdened in spirit. By prayer the soul is directed aright, the heart is purified, and the truth is discovered. By prayer temptation is overcome, sadness is avoided, and the perceptions are renewed. By prayer, languishing virtue is restored, the lukewarm attitude is dismissed, and the rust of vices is scrubbed away.
